8 years ago my husband and I got married and one year later he moved to the US from London. At the time of his move, I was working and living part-time in Africa–which is where we met. Unfortunately, while I was in Africa and he was living alone in our place in GA, my mom was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Without really asking him or caring about how he felt, I packed up my stuff and  moved to CT to take care of my mom.

Given all that was going on, he wasn't happy and I wasn't happy. To be honest, I had never felt more unsupported, resentful, and burnt out. We were constantly arguing and our sex life was getting worse and worse by the day. In my mind, I needed hope, I needed skills and tools to fix him. He was the core problem and was doing all these things to me… I sought out couples therapists and coaches. I read book after book, listened to all the relationship podcasts and blogs. Nothing worked or changed.  We would begin to use the tools, tips, and strategies we were taught, but we were never consistent– he would lose interest and it was like pulling teeth to get him to sit down for even 10 minutes to work on us. 

After years of “shoulds”, I decided to get trained as a sex and relationship coach, and finally realized what it means to do the WORK– I began to own my sexuality and recognized that I was responsible for my own pleasure and sensuality.

Don’t use fear tactics here or try to manipulate them to purchase by telling them life will suck unless they join - that’s like throwing a bucket of ice water all over them after you spent so much time getting them excited.

Persuade with joy! Remind them of what’s possible! Set the stage so it feels like an INVITATION to move forward, not a threat.
